Crock Pot Great Northern Beans

Do you know the trick to getting very soft and juicy beans?The secret is to cook it on a constant low heat. How do ?By cooking it in an electric slow cooker!The plus is that you can make a lot of it, because dried beans keep very well in the freezer.

*What do you need


°Dried beans (regardless of quantity)

° 1 teaspoon salt for 500 grams of beans

° Seasoning of your choice:

° Bay leaf, garlic, chopped onion or aromatic herbs

+ my choice:

°Pork belly, turkey thigh or other smoked meat


* How do I do :


1. Soak the beans overnight (optional). Rinse the beans with cold water and remove any broken or damaged beans. Then put it in a bowl, cover it with water and leave it overnight. Strain it before cooking.

Note: This step is optional, but it is always best to soak the beans to remove the gas-causing sugars.

2. Pour the beans into the slow cooker and add the herbs.

3. Cover with about 2 inches of cold water.

4. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir until dissolved.

5. Cover and cook over low heat for 6 to 8 hours.

6. Check for maturity after 5 hours.

If this is your first time cooking beans or a new type of bean, start checking for doneness after 5 a.m.

Then check them every 30 minutes to make sure they are cooked to your liking.
