Capcom reportedly has plans for unannounced game that will ‘sell millions’

Coming by the end of this fiscal year

Capcom is red hot right now as they’ve boasted a few major video game smash hits all in a row. March’s Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 5 million copies while Street Fighter 6 crossed the
two million sales mark earlier this month, and the company plans to keep the momentum going.

Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki reported on Twitter Tuesday that Capcom plans to release an unannounced game by the end of this fiscal year, and that said game “would sell millions.”

This information comes from Capcom’s most recent earnings call, and while there’s no current indication as to what this game might be, such a confident outlook has many fans thinking the next installment in the mega popular Monster Hunter franchise may be on the horizon.

The company has a number of well known properties from Mega-Man to Dead Rising to Devil May Cry, but the list of its top 10 best selling games of all time is somewhat telling:

10. Resident Evil 3 Remake – 7.00 million

9. Street Fighter 5 – 7.20 million

8. Resident Evil Village – 7.90 million

7. Resident Evil 6 – 8.60 million

6. Resident Evil 5 – 8.70 million

5. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne – 10.20 million

4. Resident Evil 2 Remake – 11.90 million

3. RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard – 12.00 million

2. Monster Hunter Rise – 12.70 million

1. Monster Hunter: World – 18.80 million

With the exception of Devil May Cry 5 chiming in at 11th overall, the Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter IPs continue to populate the list all the way until spot number 27 where Dead Rising 3 breaks up the bunch.

Whatever this mystery title is, it’s slated to come out before the end of this current fiscal year, meaning that we’ll have it by March, 2024 and likely know what it is well before then.

It’s good to see that Capcom doesn’t seem to be resting on laurels even at a time where few would blame them if they did.

According to the recently released Investor Relations Report, the company is on track to achieve 11 consecutive years of full-year operating profit growth, and continuing to up the ante following a year like this one is going to be increasingly difficult.

Do you think the incoming title will be from the more obvious Monster Hunter franchise, or might this be a heavy hitter from another existing IP that takes audiences by surprise?

A few candidates to consider include the likes of Dino Crisis, Dragon’s Dogma, Dead Rising, and (dare we say it?) another Marvel vs. Capcom. Chime in with your thoughts in the comments below.
