China’s SMIC predicts fiercer price war for less advanced chips

TAIPEI — China’s top chipmaker SMIC warned of an increasingly fierce price war in the domestic market for less advanced chips as well as oversupply globally as numerous new plants begin production in the coming months.

Chipmakers in China have been ramping up production to help Huawei and others withstand tightening U.S. export controls, while other countries are boosting domestic production for reasons of economic and national security.
