Sony has officially unveiled its April 2024 PS Plus Essential lineup. We won’t learn what the April PS Plus Extra or Premium games will be for a couple more weeks.
There are a total of three free games coming to PlayStation Plus this coming month. It’s a pretty solid variety of titles, too, with a couple pretty well-known releases and one game I’ve never heard of before. These aren’t the best-reviewed titles ever, but I’m certainly intrigued by one of them.
All three games will become available to download for all PS Plus subscribers on Tuesday, April 2nd. That means you have until the 1st to download this month’s games, so don’t forget to do that before they’re gone.

Immortals Of Aveum
As an fan of old magic FPS games like Hexen I was pretty intrigued when Immortals Of Aveum was announced. I was bummed out when I saw how generic it looked, and honestly only played a couple hours before I knew it wasn’t for me. A game about magic and monsters should be more magical and perform better. But it’s free if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, so you can test that out yourself. The game has a 69% average rating on Metacritic and a “Mostly Positive” user review rating on Steam.
Minecraft Legends
Minecraft Legends is basically the lovechild of Minecraft and Diablo. It’s a top-down action-RPG set in the Minecraft universe and while it lacks the depth of more advanced Diablo clones, it’s still a fun time, especially if you have smaller kids and want to play couch co-op with them. There’s not much depth and it’s a bit repetitive, so I would never recommend this at full price (where it still sells for $39.99) but for free? Fun for little kids. This one has a 71% on Metacritic and “Mixed” user review scores on Steam, where gamers are used to this type of game costing half as much.
Skul The Hero Slayer
I think I might have heard this game mentioned in passing before, but I’ve never played it and now I want to. This is, by far, the most exciting of the three even if it’s also the least famous and cheapest to actually buy. It’s also the highest-rated (80% on Metacritic, “Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam). It’s a 2D platformer rogue-lite where you play as the last demon—Skul—who must venture forth to save his kind from the evil humans who destroyed the demon civilization and captured their king. Cool premise and cool pixel-art, with gameplay that looks quite exciting and fresh in a genre where that’s become hard to achieve.
