‘Helldivers 2’ Termicide Backfires, Creates Terminid ‘Supercolony’

Well that’s not great. Apparently all that Termicide we spread around a bunch of planets meant to eradicate the Terminid thread in Helldivers 2 has had an…unintended side effect. Super Earth has just issued a new announcement that while it was 99.6% effective, on Meridia, it actually accelerated reproduction of Terminids by 20x, and has now turned the planet into a “Supercolony.”

The video demands Helldivers to go and dismantled the Termicide on the other planets in the systems as part of a new Major Order to prevent the same thing from happening there, and the scientists responsible for this screw-up have been convicted of treason.

Players were greeted with a lengthy message upon login that spells out how dire the circumstances are, here it is:

HIGH PRIORITY BROADCAST

OP. LEGITIMATE UNDERTAKING TERMINATED. EMERGECNY SITUATION IN THE TERMINID QUARANTINE ZONE.

Several weeks ago, the Helldivers activated the Terminid Control System on the Barrier Planets, Erata Prime, Fenrir III, Merida and Turing. Since then, the Termicide produced by the TCS has kept the Terminids at bay.

However, the TCS is no longer functioning as intended: Terminid outbreaks have erupted on all Barrier Planets. The bugs are displaying resistance to Termicide, something our top scientists previously believed impossible.

The situation on Meridia is even worse. There, Terminid reproduction rates have exploded overnight, and continue to increase exponentially. The planet is already almost fully infested.

While the exact mechanism for this hyper-reproductive adaptation is unknown, it appears to be linked to continued Terminicde exposure. So far, this effect is limited to Meridia. It cannot be allowed to spread.

Operation Legitimate Undertaking has been placed on indefinite hiatus. Meridia is unsalvageable. The Helldivers are ordered to deactivate the Terminid Control System on the remaining Barrier Planets immediately.

So, the current task is to fight back against the bugs on the other three planets to see if the spread can be contained. With the arrival of a “Supercolony” I wonder what other new Terminid variants may emerge from there, as that seems like a prime time to introduce some sort of new, mutated Terminid super-unit, as it’s been a while for that.

No word on the potential arrival of the Illuminate, and it appears that we will be engaged with the Terminid threat for a while here as we attempt to undo what the traitorous scientists unleashed on us all.
