If you are an avid GeForce Now user having trouble running the cloud gaming service on your Steam Deck, it’s about to get a lot easier, as Nvidia announced today that it is releasing a script that will streamline the process and make its product run on Valve’s portable gaming PC.
As detailed in the latest GeForce Now blog post, Nvidia has released a new script that will automatically install the Google Chrome web browser onto the device and configure it to run GeForce Now on Steam Deck’s gaming mode. The script is in beta mode, so you must make a few adjustments to get GeForce Now working properly on the device.
This is not the first time Nvidia has released software to make configuring and running GeForce Now on a portable gaming PC easier. The company has also released similar files for ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw.
As Nvidia points out, the release of this script makes it a lot easier for Steam Deck owners with GeForce Now to access non-Steam games via the cloud, accessing their game libraries from digital storefronts such as GOG.com and Battle.Net, for example. While those are accessible on Steam Deck without GeForce Now, this is still an alternative for some who might not want all the hassle of trying to get Epic Games Store or Ubisoft Connect running natively on the portable gaming PC.
Nvidia is the first major cloud gaming service to streamline this process on Steam Deck. Though Microsoft announced in 2022 that Xbox Cloud Gaming supports Steam Deck via Microsoft Edge, the process is still a bit more complicated than what Nvidia offers. Hopefully, Microsoft will follow in Nvidia’s footsteps and release something that will make it easier for Xbox Cloud Gaming users to access the service on Steam Deck.
