One UI 6.1.1 could be focused on video AI innovation

Samsung appears fully committed to its new AI strategy for mobile devices, TVs, and other consumer electronics, such as the Bespoke line. Galaxy AI, which debuted on the Galaxy S24 series running One UI 6.1, appears to have achieved a lot of success, or at least gained a lot of attention. And things will only continue to evolve in the direction of AI from here on out.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable should push AI one step further. They are expected to ship with a new version of Samsung’s proprietary Android interface, One UI 6.1.1, and the latter should bring new AI features. None have been confirmed, but a new rumor claims to have solved one important piece of the AI puzzle.

Samsung to launch video AI features this year

One of the main AI-related innovations Samsung will reportedly release through the One UI 6.1.1 update is video AI (via @UniverseIce). Exactly how video AI features will be implemented is unclear.

The existing Galaxy AI suite already uses an artificial intelligence component for the Instant Slow-mo feature, which allows (some) Galaxy device users to playback videos at a slower framerate through the Gallery app.

In theory, a more ambitious approach to implementing video AI on Galaxy devices through One UI 6.1.1 would be something similar to OpenAI Sora. The latter is an AI model developed by OpenAI that can generate videos according to user prompts. It’s similar to Generative photos, except it’s focused on video creation.

If the rumor is correct and One UI 6.1.1 will bring a video AI feature, it remains to be seen what route Samsung will take, what this AI feature can accomplish, and how it might improve the Galaxy user experience.

One UI 6.1.1 is expected to run on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 out of the box. The two foldable phones should be unveiled at Unpacked in early July.

Earlier today, Samsung and Google teased new and exciting AI features and experiences that both companies are working on through a “partnership that’s never been stronger.”
