EV maker Polestar has officially launched its first phone in collaboration with Chinese smartphone maker Meizu.
The Polestar Phone is not a unique device. Instead, it is based on the Meizu 21 Pro with some minor tweaks and visual alterations including the signature yellow touches around the camera LED flash ring and Polestar logo at the back of the phone and side rails. It boasts an impressive spec sheet that includes a 6.79-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display with a peak brightness of 1,850 nits.
At the heart of the Polestar Phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB RAM, 1TB of internal storage, and a 5,050mAh battery that supports 80W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging. A charger is bundled into the box alongside a unique Polestar-branded protective case, but this is IP68 rated too.
The Polestar Phone has a triple camera system at the rear that includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, 13-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto zoom lens. The selfie camera is rated at 32-megapixels and lives within a central screen punch-hole up front. An in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner provides biometric security.
Meizu has designed a theme that mimics the dedicated theme of the recent Polestar app update so that it looks and feels more like an extension of one of the vehicles. Moreover, the device also syncs directly with the Polestar 4 SUV – where this device was unveiled alongside. A UWB digital key function is touted but it’s not clear if this is available right at launch for the EV.
Sadly, the Polestar Phone is a China-only device and can only be ordered via the Polestar application in the region. One silver lining is that it is already on the Google Play supported devices list, so maybe we’ll see a limited release in more regions at some point in the not-too-distant future, as this is a stacked device. This is an expensive special edition though with a 7,388 yuan price tag that equates to around $1,020 based on current exchange rates.
