Sea of Thieves Season 12 adds seven new Xbox achievements alongside PS5 launch

Just when you thought you were done with the Sea of Thieves achievements, Rare adds several more. Sea of Thieves Season 12 launches today, bringing new achievements, weapons, and items to one of the best former Xbox exclusives — that’s right, Sea of Thieves is out today on PS5!For the first time since launch, Rare is adding new weapons to Sea of Thieves. Season 12 introduces two new weapons: the Double Barrel Pistol and Throwing Knives. The Double Barrel Pistol has less range and power compared to the normal pistol, but it does allow you to fire two shots before having to reload. You can also charge the pistol to fire two shots at once for a more devastating blow. Throwing Knives are a bit more versatile. On top of lobbing them at your foes, you can also use Throwing Knives to quickly stab someone or, if you’ve managed to catch an enemy unaware, quietly take them out from behind with a heavy downward stab.

A new cannonball and throwable are also coming to Sea of Thieves with Season 12. The Scattershot cannonball breaks apart into four smaller projectiles when fired, dealing multiple points of damage to an enemy ship. While it does have a much shorter range compared to normal cannonballs, landing a shot will rip through an enemy’s hull, causing that ship to quickly take on water from multiple points. The Bone Caller is a new throwable that will summon skeletons to fight by your side. Interestingly, you can also fire The Bone Caller from a cannon at other ships to cause havoc on deck. This new throwable is found in crates dropped by defeated skeleton fleets and in barrels on skeleton forts.

Season 12 also adds the new treasure artifact, The Horn of Fair Winds. This horn allows you to blow wind into your sails for a speed boost, put out fires, blow enemies off of cliffs or the side of a ship, and even propel you through the water.

On top of all these new additions, Rare is also making big changes to traversal in Sea of Thieves. With Season 12, you’ll now find zip lines on islands for transporting loot more efficiently and speedy getaways. You will also be able to walk along harpoon lines, which will be useful for boarding ships and getting onto an island quickly.

As for the new Season 12 achievements, Rare wants you to play around with all of these new additions. From the Double Barrel Pistol to ziplines, you will need to complete a task with each item to pop an achievement.
